Internet Radio Day of Silence, June 26th

There has been a lot of buzz about June 26th. On this day many if not most of the internet radio sites across the US will go silent in protest to increasing royalty rates.

As someone who does webcasting part time I can say the royalty rates on music are a sham. The way they are charging and the amount is set up for failure. I don’t know if shutting down the radio is going to help, but I’m for anything that points out the problem.

Pitchfork Media writes to tell us how to obtain the full album Zeitgeist. My girlfriend says just download the whole thing once it comes out. I guess that’s the way it is today.

Fight for Ogg?

Glynn Moody at the LinuxJournel wonders, “Should we fight for Ogg Vorbis?” Basically he states that because of the popularity, open source projects like LAME, patent limitations and robustness of MP3s it really isn’t worth fighting for another format.

All my stuff is MP3 so I guess I tend to agree. Who knows however, maybe Ogg will catch on like Firefox.

Jeremy Says:

Believing in a DRM business model is like joining Star Fleet security, putting on your red shirt, and volunteering to beam down to the new unexplored plant with Kirk, Spock and McCoy.
